What’s in Your Hand? It Might Just Be a Bicycle.
In May, Gateway Events traveled to the Texas–Mexico border for our Feed the Mamas outreach. While serving together, I asked Pastor Porfirio a simple question:
“How else can we help?”
He smiled and replied, “We’re praying for 100 bicycles before Christmas. They can be broken or working. We can repair them here.”
Without hesitation, I answered, “God owns the cattle on a thousand hills. I think He can find you 100 bicycles.”
That conversation became a shared vision.
A few weeks later, Andrew from Manna House called to say they had dozens of bicycles sitting outside in the rain from the Manna Bikes ministry. Before we ever collected our first bike, God was already providing.
Then the Body of Christ began doing what the Body of Christ does best—working together.
Karyn and Casey and the UnderOver team offered a trailer. Ana and Greg Yacobian and Light of Life Outreach Mission brought decades of relationships along the border with Pastor Porfilio in Reynosa and as God provides Ministry partners throughout Magnolia we be helping provide repair parts.
No single church could have done this alone.
But together, each person simply offered what was already in their hands.
Then Pastor Porfirio shared something that changed our perspective.
The bicycles can be repaired in Mexico for about one-third of what it would cost in the United States. Instead of fixing them here, churches in Mexico invite entire families to restore them together. Fathers, mothers, grandparents, and children replace tires, repair chains, adjust brakes, and prepare each bicycle for a child.
The repair process itself becomes ministry.
Then those bicycles are delivered into villages farther south as Christmas gifts—bringing transportation, opportunity, dignity, and hope in the name of Jesus.
This story isn’t really about bicycles.
It’s about collaboration.
One ministry had bicycles.
Another had transportation.
Another had relationships.
Another had volunteers.
Another had repair parts.
Everyone simply brought what was already in their hands, and God is weaving those individual gifts into one beautiful testimony.
Sometimes we wonder what God could possibly use from us.
A talent.
A truck.
A trailer.
A relationship.
A few spare hours.
Or maybe…
…just a broken bicycle.
When we place what is in our hands into God’s hands, He multiplies it for His glory.
One hundred bicycles.
Two countries.
Many churches.
One faithful God.
